A Hot Blogging Magician

writing magic, bloggingI’m not a statistician. I’m not a mathematician, nor even a magician.

I’m a writer, which does take more magic than math. Yet, Word Press (my blog server) sent me the stats for my most popular posts the past couple of years. I’m going to use those post headings in this tiny tale (below), and see if you can guess which was the #1 post for Roughwighting.

Sex and food seem to be the driving force to draw in a reader. I’m not so happy about this, but facts are facts, and stats are stats.

So, I’m setting aside the novel that I’ve been spending days, weeks, months on, and moving to a new set of characters. They all have big feet, particularly the main male character, and he only eats one meal a day: Spaghetti.

My character’s name is, well, I don’t know his first or last name, but his middle name is …What? What’s in the middle of his name is the clue to the plot of my new, new book.

You want another clue? Well, if you guess Cold, you’re way off, and if you guess Lukewarm, you’re getting closer. Ah, Luke can be his first name. Man can be his last name.

Did you figure it out yet? You want another clue?hot man, romance

Of course, Luke is HOT. But, the age-old question, and the post that got me the most viewers, is titled …. well, can you guess?

While you’re contemplating the response, perhaps you can also solve the perplexing question all writers ask: What makes a reader happy?

According to my STATS, it’s…

A Hot Man with Big Feet and a Middle Name that He’s Not So Happy About, but Spaghetti Makes His Life Worth Living.

blogging, top posts, hot man

  1. Any chance the new, new book will be ready for me to read on the plane going or coming home from Antigua? Or even just on the beach….I don’t care what the guy’s name is – I just want to read his story 😘

  2. Now that conglomeration of top post titles serves as the perfect writing prompt for a new novel. It’s too bad reports like these only come out once per year 🙂 Best of luck with all your writing endeavors in 2016, Pamela!

    • I’m not sure my ego could take more than one Word Press report a year. Plus, I don’t have that many hot male characters in my pocket. Ha Ha. But at least I’ve figured out the name for the main character in my next book! And somewhere in there, I’ll make sure that Luke is enjoying a bowl of spaghetti. 🙂 Thanks so much for your support this past year, Dave. Here’s to both of us writing up a ‘storm’ in 2016.

  3. LOL! Isn’t it funny what people will read? My stats were interesting also. I think the most comments I received was on my Friday Fictioneer posts because I always go to everyone else’s to visit and comment. Folks are really great about reciprocating 🙂
Congrats on a great year! I look forward to more of your stuffs.. 😉

  4. I wasn’t surprised by your top post (yes, sex sells . . . lol) but I was surprised on my top one. I don’t remember my stats on this blog–didn’t pay much attention because I haven’t had this one going very long–but on my old blog, my top viewed post had nothing whatsoever to do with writing. Go figure . . .

  5. Happy New Year Pam:-) Oh I love this, soooo clever, and of course hilarious, and all the playful rhyme, poetry, running through it – brilliant! Whoever thought facts and stats could inspire such creativity! Well you’ve sure proved they can. Hugs and blessings for 2016, Harula xxx

  6. I love the stats report, Pam. Some lovely person (I have no idea who they were) put a link to my blog about two years ago in Wiki – ‘How To Write a Blog that’s Funny and Interesting’ and I get a lot of traffic from there. I hope I don’t disappoint 😉

  7. You just can’t tell where the visitors will visit and what they will comment on……….except for the fact it will be what you least expect.

    • And I suppose that’s one of the fun things of blogging, right David? I love being surprised (in nice ways) from comments on my blog, but I’m just as thrilled to read the comments on other great blogs, like yours. Quite entertaining!! Hope you’re feeling well, grandpa. xoxoxhugsgalorexoxox

    • Interesting, isn’t it, what topics interest some. On the other side of big feet and spaghetti, I’m always pleasantly surprised when my random poem posts get great viewership also. We’re a complex crew, we humans….

  8. You know when I have 1000’s of emails I deleted many without reading. This may have been better for my own state of mind, Pamela.
Hope the sexy man who has a nice torso will allow your heroine to whisper his middle name while slurping spaghetti off his taut tunmy. This works for me. Forget the feet, that was just a fluke. . . Ha ha 😀

  9. Too funny! I haven’t been blogging for very long, but I am noticing that sex / relationship posts do seem to generate a lot of interest. I’m missing out on the hot guy boat though…maybe I need to remedy that!

    • I figure I don’t want to draw in the ‘wrong’ readers with my headings, but then again, maybe someone who thinks they’re reading about sex and instead finds a funny story about, say, spaghetti, might stick around…. even a hot guy.

      • I didn’t worry about this until just recently. Then you’ll be left wondering why they were searching for hot guys eating spaghetti…but you never know 😉
