No one suggested beans, which can make you toot

You supposed soups, sprouts, oranges or sauerkraut

I’m tickled by the guess of pickles, have no doubt.

 

You supposed my saucy tale came from jalapeño or peastomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, creative writing

Cranberry sauce or stewed tomatoes, if you please.

So shocked was I when the first comment to last Friday’s post, folks

Guessed the right answer – canned ARTICHOKES.

    • Before I moved to the west coast, I didn’t even know what an artichoke LOOKED like, Andrea. But the vegetable (a weirdly pretty looking spiky thing) is grown in CA and I grew to absolutely love steaming artichokes and serving them with dinner. My kids became connoisseurs. 🙂

  8. It never occurred to me to guess canned artichokes because I am a snob when it comes to artichokes. They grow here and I buy fresh ones all the time. Canned artichoke hearts are easy to use, especially in a dip or pasta. I have to try them. The moral of the story is don’t be a snob .

    • I laughed when you posted (I think on Instagram?) a beautiful photo of artichokes from your neighborhood farm a week or so ago. I understand artichoke snobbery… I really do. 🙂

    • Thanks for the link to the benefits of artichokes, Peta. LOVE IT. Yes, I steam them fresh, and always wondered if they were healthy; perhaps not as much with the ‘secret’ dip my guy makes for the artichoke leaf and heart. 🙂

    • And here I thought it was obvious = with the male character ‘Artie’ – but most people didn’t guess. I was tricky and didn’t include the word ‘choke’ in the same sentence with Artie — not even in the bath. 🙂

  15. Never eaten an artichoke, well at least not consciously and I sure as hell wouldn’t want to sit on one, looks like they could do a lot of damage in the raw. You still look like a cranberry girl to me.

  24. Ha! What fun. Thank you, Pam. I am soooo excited to have guessed the contents of your can, and to have received notification of my prize in such a lovely rhyming way! I really can’t believe it and am much amused. I don’t like artichokes, but Hub is rather fond of them. I’ve never had a can of artichokes in the house, just a couple of jars. I thought you gave fabulous clues – Artie, choke, and heart. It just spelled artichoke to me, but I didn’t expect to be correct. The rest of your story was quite intriguing.

  26. This was a fun way to get participation and amuse us all, Pam! I would have guessed this since I like a hot cheesy artichoke-spinach dip which usually you serve tortilla chips but I like pretzel sticks instead! I usually have olives, green and black, a jar of medium hot salsa and spinach souffle in the freezer.

    • Yum! I’ve served my artichoke dip with crackers usually, and sometimes tortilla chips. I like your idea of the pretzel sticks. Will try next time. You are a great party planner, with olives, salsa, and spinach souffle waiting for a fun time in the freezer. 🙂

      • Thank you for the compliment, Pam! Shredded cheese is another ingredient, since my grandkids like it melted on tortilla chips. 🙂
        I try to meet the savory taste buds of my guy that I am dating. I do have cookies, ice cream (pralines and cream) and always candy. . . Now, if someone wants a meal, let me run across the street to the Greek (Opa’s) restaurant or down the street for Mexican (Los Cerritos or El Vacquero). . .
