But that sounds just crazy, so ignore my personal folklore.

Today is my 395th post on Roughwighting! Many have encouraged me to publish a book of my short stories. What do you think?

  3. Pam, did you hear that? That was the sound of a champagne corking popping In anticipation of your short story book! 😀 I’m hooked with all these magical story lines and want to know more … please seriously consider a short story collection! One eager waiting impatiently! Hugs ❤️

    • Haha. The champagne is popped even before the book is put together. I like that attitude. I’ll be e-mailing you for some further advice, Annika. I love the way your book of short stories turned out (the outside of it is great, the inside terrific). 🙂

    • I published my two novels – romantic suspense – independently and was really pleased with the result. But it was a lot of work! I believe that with this potential book of short stories I’ll have more support and advice and technical help, so the reality is getting closer… Many thanks for your encouragement.

  12. If you want to write a book of short stories and that fulfills a need within you, then I say go for it.

    [I’ve had people tell me I need to put together a book of my blog posts which are in essence short personal essays. I’ve thought about it and decided that until I feel the need to do so, I won’t. Just saying…]

    • Oh, my, hmmmmm, dear me. May I borrow that premise, Marian? Suddenly I’m realizing I’d love to write about a book that writes itself. Sort of like Stephen King’s car, Christine, that drives itself. Except not horror and not a car, and not….. oh, you get the picture. 🙂

    • Mermaid/farmer story is already written and planned for the book, which it seems I’m crazy enough to put together now. But you’re more than welcome to write a story with a mermaid and a farmer too. Um, will it also include a capybara?
      Hope you saw that I ‘tagged’ you at the end of this post – “Doodle by Mike Allegra.” I may even want to use it as my “author photo” for this crazy book. With full credit to you, the amazing artist, of course!

  26. Yes of course I think it is an excellent idea! You had me at the mermaid and the farmer. Having grown up on a farm I am imagining a mermaid who has lost her way and appears i nthe farmer’s slough. 🙂

  31. Go for it, Pam! It’ll be hard to pick the best ones for a collection. Maybe more than one book is in order? For all eternity to read. 🙂 I had to think about the song “If I had a million dollars” when first reading this week’s post.

      • Nothing different than what I’m doing right now, Pam. Well, that’s partly the truth.

        We have friends over for the weekend and we were just talking today about what we would do if we were rich. My answer was that it would mostly be a mental improvement. Not having to worry about money would be wonderful. Also, Mark and I would spoil ourselves much more than we do now, by eating out, going on a vacation, and doing a paid excursion once in a while. 🙂

        • I’m with you. I wouldn’t do anything different than I am now (if I suddenly had a million), but perhaps travel to CA more to see family and friends. However…. when I read about people who have a lot of money, and all the material possessions it seems to entail (property as well as ‘things’) and sure, traveling, I realize most are not happy;they’re extremely stressed. Simple is so much easier, and really helps us center on what is most important to us.

  37. Your first story, the mermaid and the farmer, reminds me of a Garcia Marquez story, “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World.”

    395 posts? Wow! I found you late and missed a lot. With all those posts, I’m sure you could publish a great collection of short stories.

    • I was quite amazed when I saw the number of stories I’ve post also. Hey, time/writing goes fast when you’re having fun. I just ordered Garcia Marques’ collected short stories from my library – look forward to reading The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World. 🙂

  56. I’d say go for it. I was challenged in 2015 to write a Kindle e-book and did it. Then I got the bug to write a second one in 2018 and so I did it again. Haven’t had many (actually only a few) read those two but guess what, I have the itch again and am working on a third. Perhaps I may even market this one better after it is written. I am sure your stories will have much more success than mine did. What else do you want to do with your time? Go for it! 😁

    • Thanks for the encouragement. And the advice. I hope you GO FOR IT with your third book, also. I suppose the point is not how many people read our books; we write for the love of writing. But on the other hand, it’s sure nice to know that others enjoy our creativity. For that reason, going the next step to promoting and marketing our work is a necessity. ;-0
