Silly Suds

https://pixabay.com/photos/soap-bubbles-air-bubbles-texture-7298026/ Kranich17The day is dark, as in pitch black, and it’s only 5 p.m. I’ve had a full day – yoga and meditation at 6 a.m., 500 words for my short story by 8 a.m., dance class by 9, grocery shopping by 10:30. I baked cookies for the neighbor and prepared a casserole for dinner.

Now, I peer longingly at the claw-footed bathtub in my master bathroom and think – “yes, I deserve this.”

Be warned, my baths are not your average 15-minute-and-you’re-out-dried-and-dressed kind of bath. My baths are …. if I tell you, please don’t share with others. It’s rather . . . unusual . . . and not for public examination.

When the steam rises as the hot water tumbles from the tub faucet, I pour in the special bubbles – created by Wanda. Wanda is, of course, well, if you don’t know who Wanda is, I won’t share. She’s only available at certain times of the season and only for those who know the secret code to her shop.

I undress and climb into the bathtub (the porcelain tub was custom made for my great-grandmother) and sink into the aromatic lavender-scented water while bubbles rise and double every minute. By the time I sigh, then smile, then emit a girly giggle, the entire bathroom is surrounded by huge sparkling bubbles that …. do I dare tell you?https://pixabay.com/photos/soap-bubbles-fun-colors-4557497/ MolnarSzabolcsErdely

Bubbles … that begin to talk. At first the sound is like the tinkling of chimes, but as I relax and let go of my worries (how many more chapters do I need to write, how many steps did I walk today, how will I pay the bills), my body begins to float along with the talking bubbles, which begin to gurgle and form words I understand:

Let it go

Feel the lightness of being

Be now not then

The wonder is here

Here is there and everywhere

Color your world

https://pixabay.com/photos/heart-water-bubbles-air-bubbles-7647479/ Kranich17I return to reality when the timer goes off in the kitchen. The casserole is ready. I softly sing, “til next time” as the bubbles gently release me. Bath time is over.

bubble bath, lavender, relaxing

Do you enjoy a good bath now and then? With bubbles?

  1. When I worked, I had a nice bubble bath every Friday night. Bubbles, lit candles, a glass of wine and a good book. Hubby had given me a bathtub pillow for Christmas once. So I could lean back and read and sip and relax. It was heaven and so needed. Now I still have a nice bubble bath from time to time but don’t go to quite the effort. I know someone who renovated their bathroom and took out the tub leaving only a shower. I don’t get that!

    • Taking out a bathtub and only leaving a shower is hard to fathom. Our next-door neighbors did that actually. I don’t think they know what they’re missing! Again, Darlene, not surprised you and I love our baths with a good book and a glass of wine. And a candle burning lightly.

  2. I miss a good, long bath – and that one sounds exceptional. I used to have a very slow morning, not like that of your protagonist. I woke up slowly with a good book and breakfast in the tub. Not quite as good as talking bubbles but it helped ease into the day.

  3. When I did my remodel of my house, one of the requirements was a tub in which both boobs and knees would be submerged (at 5’9″, a “basic” tub will NOT do). Sadly, it it not claw-footed – budget balked at that. Still, it is perfect for me! Bathtime is a special occasion, usually including wine, a book (oft not opened but just in case), music and bubbles.
Is there a special code or invitation needed to get on Wanda’s list? I feel I can sure supply the necessary!!
The woman who sold me the house, gifted me with a beautiful box of 6 vials of bubbles. I am now out. Must find where she got them! (Until/unless I get on Wanda’s list, of course…)
I very much relate to your talking bubbles. Lovely, lovely write, Pam.

    • You are definitely a bath-soul-sister, Dale. Good for you letting those contractors know how to please a tall woman in the bath!(that came out wrong, but you know what I mean 😳🙃) I am very scent sensitive, so I need bubble baths that are just lightly and organically scented- not perfumey. Actually found a very nice Rose scented or Lavender scented one from “Jason‘s” in Whole Foods.
I tried to contact Wanda to help you and Diana Peach get the code, but she is not responding to my request. 😚

      • That I am. And I’m also with you on the stinky bath bubbles – I am very persnickety which is why I was delighted with the gift – every one was marvellous!
As for Wanda… I respect that. Mayhaps I shall one day fall into her good graces! 🥰😘

  4. Then came the drought….remember? There went the bath and in came the five minute shower. I am longing for your dreamy bubbles with just right temperature of lovely water. Awe!

  5. How wonderful Pam. I love the idea of a magical bath. Sadly no tub and rarely bother due to not fitting at 6’2″. To bountiful bubbly bliss! 😍

  6. Sounds dreamy, Pam. I do try and replicate that detached feeling in the shower…with the notable exception of being able to hear a timer from the kitchen. That would have to be an air siren for me to react to food ready for further processing.🙂

    • I apologize for disagreeing. I also love my hot showers and take them after strenuous exercise. But nothing nothing compares to a long hot soak in the tub with bubbles. Fortunately, I have hypersensitive hearing. Plus, I can smell when something is baking in the oven ready to be released. 😃🫧🛀

  7. Bath time is my favorite time of day. I LOVE IT! You supplied the bubbles but otherwise I have the same pleasure as you describe.

Because of a procedure I had this week, the Doc said, “Take a shower instead.” So happy when I could resume baths yesterday. To me, suds are not silly. Serious business, indeed.
Thank you for the whimsy, Pam! 😀

    • I have convinced myself after a 3 mile walk this beautiful Saturday winter morning that I deserve an hour bath soon today! I have tried to contact Wanda. You and two others have begged for the code. If she ever gets back to me, I’ll let you know. She is very very secretive. 😏🙃

  8. Sounds glorious. Whether it’s meditation, exercise, baths, or something else, everyone deserves to find their happy place to restore their energy and mental health.

    • We sure do deserve that, Pete. And just to let you know, it’s not just a female pleasure. When we moved in this place, it had an over 6 foot bathtub so my guy now indulges as well. However, I can’t convince him to try the bubbles. 🫧😚

  9. I’d be stressed just trying to find the time for a bath like this. Those bubbles would have to talk fast and loud to get me to stay and relax. Having written this, I realize that maybe a bath like this is exactly what I need. I love the idea of talking bubbles.

    • Consider yourself persuaded with my silly suds post Liz. Honestly, I take a good hot soak about every other early evening. It ends the day so magically and soothingly. I also always get in reading at least 2 to 3 chapters while doing so. 😃

  10. Now… where is Wanda’s shop? What’s the code? You can whisper it to me so no one overhears. 🙂 I see some bubbles in my future even if I have to get them at the grocery store. Lol. What a lovely peaceful post for the busy season, Pam. Just what the doctor ordered. Hugs, my friend, and Happy Holidays. ❤

  11. O how I wish I had a bottle of Silly Suds! Your day was exhausting but your time in the tub was a fitting restoration. I’m going to Google Silly Suds right now :0) !

  12. Your comment about the warming effect of baths — with or without bubbles — brought to mind a winter visit to London. I was in a hostel that required coins for space heaters in the rooms, and the hallways were unheated. After a nice, hot soak in a shared bath, I walked back to my room, and steamed the whole way. Wave an arm, and clouds of steam wafted away. I hope never to experience that again!

  13. My sensitive skin requires epsom only. Though some teas are okay. My tub is not nearly as nice as a proper claw foot, yet bath time is still my fullest relaxing time. Incense, chants, candles… it’s all about connecting to self and letting the water encompass my body and soul.

  14. omg Pam, I love this. up at the god awful hour, work out complete, dinner prep and a bath. I’ve been planning one for a week a wanda talking bubble bath for hours and today I finally gogt 10 min while i washed my hair under the waterfall looking faucet pretending I was in hawaii and the bell rang for a client while the bubbles cried wahhhhh.. Great piece!!!❣️❤️😹💕

  15. Not in a long, long time … but even when I did, it felt like I should be doing something more for myself – like getting out walking. My “bath” – no suds involved – is my morning journaling by my front window with a candle. Does that count?

    • Ummm, no. 😙 I’m actually responding to this as I’m soaking in a long, hot tub. Bath time is not in place of walking or meditating, or dancing, or anything else. It is a thing within itself.
And I should’ve added that it’s very very good for sore muscles. 💪
