Ponder a squirrel who is
Eager to be a bird, thus
Tempted to give up a part of himself
Enough to accept a dragonfly’s magic while
Yearning to be like his best bird friends.
Watching their joyous freedom in the
Air as they swoop and sing, Petey is
Nudged to be like them.
This compels him, as many of us at times, to
Sacrifice part of himself, to be something else.
Why is this not a good
Idea? The shenanigans in the tale prove that the
Novelty of being some(thing) else leads to calamity, then to
Gratefulness of all that we are, all that make us
Special for being – uniquely, wonderfully ourselves.

Pam, you are right up there with my most prolific author friends. Fables are always in vogue. And how clever of you to introduce your new book with an acrostic poem–brava! 😀

Thanks for figuring out I used the acoustic method, Marian. Having a bit of a problem getting it all out but it was fun to find a different way to introduce Petey to my friends. 🐿️

It is so tempting to add wings to our bodies but as in my fable with Petey, you need to give up something to get those wings. Petey learns quite a lesson! Thank you for the Wahoooo. 😍

Shelley Steinle and I knew each other many years ago, then “found” each other again as I was ready to start publishing my children’s books. Best.Illustrator.Ever. She’s amazing, and she totally “gets” my stories and brings them to life through her artistic talent.

Thanks, Bernadette. I never know how to promote a new book without sounding either boring or bragging. Using the title of the book into a poem helped me (hopefully) be neither. 🙂

Phew. How to promote a kids’ book so that the adults know how much fun it is? I used poetry and it really helped me out. THANKS.

Hi Nancy. Yes, my grandson (10 when we began the story, 11 now) deserves the co-author title. And I figure he’ll hopefully be able to brag to his kids in 25 years or so. 🙂

The pub date for PETEY WANTS WINGS is 9/15. I better get another blog post out since the publisher has a pre-order deal on free shipping until that date. ;-0
I didn’t know how to first introduce Petey and thought an acrostic the easiest. Glad you liked it! ❤

Ack. You know how it is. Takes a year or two to write a book, edit it, have it reviewed, accepted by publisher, and then WHAMMO, time to promo as pub date is looming. Funny how time takes its time only at certain times. 🙂 🙂

Such a clever way to write about Petey and your new book. Congratulations. This is short tale reminds us of a very important message – to be ourselves as we are all special in our own way. Beautiful illustrations and Petey comes across as a really nice squirrel who is eager to connect with others 😊❤

Well done you! Petey is gorgeous. I love squirrels. Sadly there are none in Australia.
LikeLiked by 1 person
WHAT??? I didn’t know that about Australia. Well, many people in the US bemoan the squirrels in their trees. I happen to find them intelligent and darn cute. Even when I have to scare them away from our bird feeders! 🙂

Yup. All of our native animals are marsupials. Some of them are incredibly cute, but not like a squirrel.
lol – we have to try to stop our possums from stealing all the fruit before we even get a chance to taste it! Our possums do look different to your though. Huge big eyes and very pretty. Hard to get angry at them. 😀

Oooh – a new book coming out!! Congratulations!! I wish you all the best.
I am woefully behind, but catching up … so our ghost story will continue? I hope? 🙂
