A Dreamy Spring Break

Chat GPT, dream, dreamscapesI read the brochure and wonder: Dare I? Dare I not? This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go away without really going away at all.

Or, well, going far away to a destination unknown by taking a 15-minute drive to a tiny shop called “Dreamscapes.”

My calendar is empty for the day, and according to the info, I’ll be away for a Chat GPT, woman in rocking chair, dreamingweek, but in actuality it will be five hours. I can escape for five hours, can’t I? I’m a grown woman, no kids left at home, why the heck not?

As I pull into the tiny lot, park, and ring the doorbell (which makes an otherworldly chime), I decide. Yes, I’ll dare.

Chat GPT, woman flying on a rake, dreamsA petite bespeckled man of indeterminate age opens the door with a Mona Lisa smile. “Ah, so glad you can make it,” he says as if we know each other. We don’t. I’ve never seen the man in my life. But …. Oh, yes, I do recognize him from my dream a few nights ago. Turned out he was a warlock, and he was teaching me to fly on my rake.

Don’t judge me, I don’t have a broom at my house.

He wiggles his fingers – all 11 of them – and my eyes grow heavy before I sit down completely. I hear a tiny giggle, and then a purplish mist encases me. My body begins to float.

“Off to dreamland,” the man/warlock exclaims. “You’ll meet the beings who are often in your dreams, and they’ll explain what each dream of the past year means. So enlightening.” dreamland, Chat GPT

But as I drift off a thought flies in: Most of my dreams are so weird I wake up shaking my head in confusion and woe.

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Would you want an explanation of YOUR dreams??

    • What a wonderful way to view your dreams – full of “allure and mystery.” My dreams have too much mystery, suspense, and even darkness to them, so I’d be quite worried about what they mean. ;-0

  1. LOL, Pam this is delightful. Although for me that was a horror ending. Haha. The closest thing I ever have to a good dream is one that’s… weird and uneasy. “Meeting the beings that are in my dreams” no no no no. LOL. This really is a terrific story. Hugs.

    • Oh, Andrea, take the win! Your dream last night was a wonderful gift (and sincere) from your dream Spirit, who I agree with! Once in a while I have a Light-filled dream like yours, but more likely they go the other way. :-0

  2. Haha, how fun, or not, Pam! My psychology study explains why we dream and I don’t agree with lots of the theories. I recognized bits and pieces in my dreams. They came together for no reason. I don’t need anyone to explain it to me!

    • I think the ‘experts’ each have their own theories on dreams, and none of them agree. Dreams are like the bottom of the sea – so much we don’t know about what’s really happening “down” or “in” there! Have a good night’s sleep. 🙂

  3. I would love to have some of my dreams explained to me. Most of mine are happy or adventurous. Of course I don’t think I would like to return to my nightmares (which are few and far between). But maybe they have messages as well. I love this concept. And a rake is as good as a broom!

    • One does wonder why the broom got all the fun. A rake is a needed tool too, on the ground or … in the air. 🙂 You’re lucky that most of your dreams are ‘happy and adventurous.’ I’ll admit, I’m envious. I did take a ‘dream workshop’ years ago and the best thing I learned is that many of us, throughout the world, have similar dreams. Universal, which makes sense.

  5. I don’t remember my dreams; maybe with a pad and paper by my bedside I could retrieve some of them. And, I do have a broom and a rake, one I used this morning to rake up dead autumn leaves. That’s as much of reality as I can take now.

Maybe I’ll have to summon the petite bespeckled man. Yes?

  6. Hi, Pam – In terms of dreams that I remember upon waking, I’ve typically had a version of the same dream my entire life (I’m desperately looking for a washroom but cannot find an appropriate one). I will definitely pass on the interpretation. Sigh! ❤

  7. You’re very good, Pam, at imagining the unimaginable.

I don’t remember my dreams for long, but it seems that my recent dreams have been rather ordinary–no exotic vacation locations, no strange people or frightening situations. I think the man with eleven fingers would be able to explain it all as being related to people I know or have known and situations I’ve experienced. On the other hand, I don’t remember my dreams that well.

    • I’m told that we can ask for specific dreams right before we go to sleep. It works for me sometimes. When I don’t ask, in my dreams I meet people I don’t know and places I’ve never been (in my awake life). I’d say you’re lucky to not have frightening dreams, but I wish you some adventurous ones. 💜

  8. It’s not about explaining one’s dreams; it’s rather about being inspired by one’s dreams and doing something with them.
Why do you want to fly on a rake? We don’t think that’s freedom, but it shows you your prejudice biased by cliches. Freedom is using the rake as the rake again. Well, this is what Kb’s old and wise psychoanalyst would say.

  9. What a delightful read, Pam! Why not fly on a rake? Who said only brooms could do?

I can have vivid dreams but five minutes after I wake up… poof! Would be nice to have a moment longer with them…

  10. Oh, that’s the kind of dream I’d like to have 🙂 I don’t actually dream much … at least, I don’t remember dreaming. I say I prefer not to dream because dreaming takes so much energy. Seriously, if I do dream, it’s usually a dream filled with angst … at best. You know the kind. Running through airport terminals, unable to find the right one. Suddenly being told I have to give presentation at a conference even though I’m retired. I wake up irritated and tired 😆 But your dream … yeah, that would be nice!

    • I have life-long stay-with-me dreams also, Ann. Particularly the ones that I write down. Even if I don’t have the written paper anymore, that dream stays with me. I most like the flying ones. I’m glad I can still get that feeling, just remembering the dream.

  11. Oh yes! I’d want to know what they mean, Pam. Dreams are full of wisdom and insights, even the less than pleasurable ones have lessons. Oh, I noticed your mention of flying dreams. I haven’t had one of those in a long time, but I also remember the feeling. Happy Dreaming!

  12. I had incredibly vivid dreams when I was younger. Later, I had my dreams analyzed by a therapist, which was interesting . However, in my old age, my dreams have become rather dull the few times I dream .

      • I’m surprised, Gerlinde, considering the traveling you do in your ‘old age.’ Hmmm, you’re a young’un, really. I wish you a dream as good as a warm chocolate cream pie.

  13. I like how your fictional you finds ways to relax and even dream. I had VERY vivid dreams as a child but as life became more relaxed, so did my dreams. For a while I took B-6 to help remember them. Doesn’t work now. This week, I woke yelling out loud after a vivid dream and wrote it down. It was something symbolic of what I’m wrestling with at the moment. Why don’t we dream fluffy and fun stuff? I’ll take your dream scape any day. You can send me the coordinates too. :)) Great story.

  14. You a always know how to do short story fiction and leave us hanging, Pam! But reading the comments, I also have to ask if this place was real and if you actually were there…because for some reason, the main character really seems like you. Dreams can take many forms. The dreams we have at night, daydreams, our dream holiday, is everything around us a dream actually… Love how you wrote this, started off hopeful and then who knows where it leads! Thanks for sharing, Pam 🙂

    • Such a good question, Mabel. The character sounds like me because if I saw such a ‘store’ I’m sure I’d stop by. This is what I call (in my creative writing classes) AUTO FICTION. It’s autobiographical in a way but it’s fiction. How’s that for a non-answer???? 🙂
I have a student (in her 50s) who writes non-fiction about what you say in your comment, basically, that everything around us is a dream. I find that frightening. ❤

      • You really are very creative in the way you write, Pam. Your words make your fiction come to life just like that as we read. ‘Everything around us in a dream.’ Such a scary thought…but at the same time, anything is possible in dreams 🙂

    • Wow. Thank you so much. A huge compliment considering your website, which is fascinating. I used the dream alphabet. Very neat. I couldn’t find a way to “follow” your blog.

  15. Oh how timely, Pam! I just told my kids “No, I don’t want a ring to tell me analyze my sleep, HR, rem etc but if it could write down the details of my dreams since I’ve been dreaming soooo much I could get more insight. Then I thought again.. someone tracking my brain is pretty invasive!
