Particular I am, about how to fold sheets
Angled into a square, or a rectangle but I
Muddle along realizing sheets, and life, don’t fold neatly because
Energy, which surrounds all – from creating, behaving, Being,
Loving and longing – is wild and messy and never
A straight line, which makes life a vibrant complex puzzle.

I’m not quite as fussy as you are, but I’m realizing that life will come at you from every direction no matter how carefully you fold your sheets.

Now that’s the metaphor I’m thinking about! No matter how much we try to fold things neatly, life doesn’t go that way. 💛

No, we definitely encounter a few wrinkles along the way.

Probably the less you think about folding sheets the better! 😏 But I do have friends who take quite a lot of time to make sure they’re folded evenly and crisply.

I am fussy about folding sheets as well. I lay them out on the bed and make sure the ends all line up nicely. I have even mastered folding fitted sheets. Does it matter? Probably not, but it makes me happy!

I am very impressed Darlene! I have not learned the sweet spot of folding sheets neatly. And as long as they feel good in bed without too many wrinkles I guess it doesn’t matter. 💖

You’re right, it doesn’t matter. And I just can’t wrap my head around ironing sheets!!

Flat sheets get folded into nice squares or rectangles. Fitted sheets? What is this “fold” of which you speak? Those get flopped over this way and that, and then shoved into the drawer. The better part of wisdom is knowing which technique is best for which chore!
LikeLiked by 3 people
Ha! Great solution. And perhaps similar to what I do when a “life” problem occurs- shove it in a figurative drawer and hope it comes out later, smoother. 🤓

I know this is the wrong answer, but my husband does the laundry and folds the sheets in hotel fashion because he once worked for a Holiday Inn Express.

My arms never seem long enough to fold sheets well, and as for the fitted ones . . .😂 The way I get around it now, as long as we don’t have guests, is to wash the sheets on the bed and then take them from the dryer and put them right back on. However, i can’t fold tablecloths either.
LikeLiked by 4 people
I do the same thing but then I realize I should give other sheets a chance (I almost sound like John Lennon). 😌 And also I need to wash and store the guest room sheets. Few arms are long enough- I use my chin after the first fold.

I’ve always wanted someone to ask me how I fold sheets! So here you go: I start out determined to fold the fitted sheet into a perfect square and about halfway through, I just bunch it up and flatten it out and then I stuff it into the closet! 🙂

Laughing!! I began this post in all seriousness but the answers are seriously funny. ☺️

The flat sheet is easy: Just following the rectangular lines.
The fitted sheet? I once saw a video on how to do it right, and it seemed easy, but . . . .NOT! Often Hubs, who usually makes the bed, just put the laundered fitted sheet right back on, so it matters not.

You and Merril are similar. Once my guy retired I decided he could be the folder-of-laundry. As an engineer he takes on the task as if studying for another degree. Fitted sheets frustrate him endlessly. 😝

I used to work with someone who had OCD. Whenever she came into the staff room, she used to organize anything that was slightly misaligned, like the boxes of tissue. She also had to sit in the same seat, or it would throw her off.
Your post made me think of this classic Seinfeld clip about George and wanting his sheets not tucked in.

Great clip! Yes, fitted sheets were made to drive folks crazy. I think that’s the conclusion I came to in this free verse – “life” is not meant to be easily folded so don’t try!

Dear Pam
We are helpless folding fitted sheets. We gave it up after seeing the instructions online. We just kind of roll them. Not elegant, but the only practical solution we found.

Love this! And the timing! Arriving as I’m staring at a fresh pile of sheets…still warm from the dryer. I’ll fold the pillowcases with care but I’ve learned. The blasted fitted sheets get crumpled and compressed and I masquerade my mess by placing sharp-edged pillowcases, neatly folded on top. Good enough! LOL! 😂 ❤️😂

Excellent solution! I think this free verse came to me because we’ve had guests the last two weekends, thus lots of sheets to wash/dry/fold (or roll as the case may be). And absolutely, those pillowcases look nifty all folded as if all sheets/life is easy/peasy. xo

I have been banned from the laundry room (An issue with red shirt and white towels years ago.) so folding is not how I can relate. I do like the idea of having many ways to fold as a metaphor for many approaches to life. If I were still in the folding business, I think I would just go from the dryer to the bed and skip the folding part. In college that always worked. Fun post, Pamela.

If I remember correctly John, way back when you PURPOSELY messed up with the color/white combo in the laundry, thus extracting you from laundry duty for life. Good going! 🙂 (However, I think you could offer at this stage to at least fold the sheets…) Oh, no, maybe you’re the one who makes the bed. But as the Seinfeld clip shows that Pete Springer shared, then do you tuck in the sheets/blanket or let them go untucked? So many decisions in sheets, and in life.

That is a secret. Yes, I make the bed since I have the hospital fold down pat. The producer folds the sheet since she is the only one who can handle the fitted bottom sheet.

I’m with you. Folding sheets is my least favorite thing to so. I try getting them folded into a square but there are always pieces hanging out. The WORST are the king-size sheets. I get a real workout folding those.

I can’t imagine folding king-size sheets. Just the queen size gets me (and the sheets) all twisted up. 🙂

I wish I’d paid more attention to my mom when she explained how to fold fitted sheets. I love a neat and well organized closet and in order to have that the sheets must be neatly folded! I am better at all of it the older I get, I think. I hope!😂 Love your poem!

Thanks for liking my little acrostic. It’s fun to use our name because as we follow the letters of our name, we find out what we’re thinking about. My closet doesn’t look as good as yours, I’m sure!!! 🙂

lmao! This one was priceless. Yes Ma’am, I fold my sheets with great care because they are fitted sheets and always resist folding!
Actually, I fold my sheets /on the clothesline/ before I bring them inside. It’s a lot easier wrestling with them whilst they’re still hanging than when they drown me in fabric. 😀

Whoaaaaaa. You are an “above and beyond” sheet folder. On the clothesline?? I hear that sheets smell really sweet when dried that way. But I’ve never done it. So impressed. And for some reason, I’m not surprised you complete this task “with great care.” Hope those sheets give you a great night’s sleep!

lol – I do like nice sheets but no way would I even consider ironing them – I do not iron anything! So hanging out with care is my way of getting ‘nice’ without too much effort. And yes, bedding dried on the clothesline does smell nice. It also save on electricity! -blush- yes, I’m a Scrooge. 😀

This is too funny (and the comments hilarious)!
I am one of those who can actually fold a fitted sheet. Not saying it is perfect, mind you, but the finished product is a neat square (who really needs to see the inside, right?)
Guess that means I am calm and serene on the outside and a mess on the inside!
LikeLiked by 2 people
Aha! You’re the first one to bring up the idea that we can psychoanalyze a person with how they fold their sheets. I like your take on your own folding, but seriously, I don’t think there’s a chance in h— that you’re a mess on the inside. So, that psychology goes out the window (with the sheets??). 🙂 I agree, I thought I’d written a serious poem, but the comments have been extremely entertaining.

What a lovely thought! Some of the most delightful things in life are messy and usually unplanned, even unimagined. They come from someone or somewhere else. Thank goodness for other people and the world beyond our front door.
I fold sheets neatly when I do, but I have only one set of sheets for my bed, she I wash and dry them and put them back on.

Hi and thanks so much for your comment. As much as we THINK we want to have our life organized and neat, sometimes the unexpected and even chaotic give us the most pleasure. Great perspective. And smart to only have one set of sheets!! 🙂
