A Witchy Writer’s Incantation

Let me walk upon the clouds, nothing under me

I need no lift, I need not ask for a flying ride

When creativity is my guide, I am true and free.

Let me walk upon the clouds, nothing under me

As I float I’ll write a poem, delicate yet rough

With creativity as my guide, I am true and free

Words are LIGHT, and gliding right, they become enough.

As I float I’ll write a poem, delicate yet rough

I need no lift, I need not ask for a flying ride

Words are LIGHT, and gliding right, they become enough

Star bright star light set my broom aside.

I’m off for a broom-less ride for a few weeks. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

    • I need a structure when I write a poem, and I find the pantoum very accessible. I probably should have mentioned what kind of poem it was in the title, since others didn’t notice. Oh well, a poem is a poem is a way to express ourselves – the glory of creativity and poetry!

  1. Merril says your bit of verse is a pantoum, so it probably is so since she’s in the know.

Our neighbors have displayed a tall purple witch attached to a black broom. Best guess the whole decoration is 10-15 feet tall. I’m thankful the house is on a cul-de-sac and not encroaching on my line of vision when I drive by. Happy Hallowe’en and enjoy your broom-less ride, which I interpret as a blog break. Yes?

    • Thanks to Merril for naming the poetic structure I used – I tagged it but I should have put it in the title. It’s a really fun way to write a poem (or at least I think so). “The witch” has gotten such a bad rep over the centuries, and truly undeserved. Why she’s become a symbol of this holiday is a mystery to me. Sorry about your neighborhood witch – hopefully she’ll disappear on Nov. 1! “Happy” Halloween and I’ll be back in the blogosphere in mid-November. ❤

    • Yes, yes, yes. Some say there are only so many plots in the world, and that the same stories are told over and over again in tiny different ways. I disagree. I think our word/story combinations are endless. That’s the magic!

    • Thanks, Patricia. I’m not a big fan of Halloween, and yet I find the holiday quite inspirational for some reason. It must be the magic floating in the air! Have a candy-filled, fun Halloween Day. 🙂
