Earbud Meditation

earbuds, meditation, Image by ai subarasiki from Pixabay I seize the opportunity to use my new earbuds, a gift to myself last December that I still hadn’t figured out how to use. Not sure why I had felt such a need to buy them except for the fact that I watched my two grandchildren – 11 and 12 – walk around their house smiling as they listened to a book (or music?) with small white objects stuck in their ears.

tea, tea latte, Earl Gray tea

Did I mention sprinkled chocolate on top?

So here it is, 6:15 in the morning. My guy has left to pick up our special drink orders (don’t shame me, but we don’t have a cappuccino maker in our house – we don’t even have a coffee maker – and I don’t have the wherewithal to make a Grande Earl Gray tea latte/no water/skim milk/¼ tsp of vanilla/extra foam).

Besides, this is my time. My quiet time to sink onto the living room floor with my legs crossed, eyes closed, meditation app ready on my phone. But this morning, I put in my earbuds first. My granddaughter connected it to my phone somehow yesterday.  She demonstrated how to use the things with no eye-roll attitude that her grandmother was not tech savvy.

Image by Briam Cute from Pixabay , meditationNow, I sit gracefully as well as gratefully and press the button for “The Honest Guys” meditation about a jeweled stone circle that vibrates with soft energy. The sound is vibrant and as clear as if the meditator is speaking softly in my ears.

I breathe in deeply (as I’m instructed) and imagine a pillar of amethyst tingling at my touch. I breathe out and my scalp tingles along. I breathe in deeply and the citrine pillar pulls me toward it. Yes, this is the right one for today. Not surprising, since the yellow hues of citrine symbolize the spiritual qualities of joy and abundance.  Citrine is also known for its ability to transmute energies quickly and easily, transferring energy from one to another.

I mentally hug the pillar like a tree, like a lifeline, like a cord to creativity.

The garage door opens. My guy is back with our early morning sustenance. I breathe in and out once more, then stand up like my own citrine pillar, ready to greet the morning.

citrine, crystal, meditationHow do YOU greet the day?

  1. We greet the day, like most people we suppose, reading the papers, having a cup of coffee or two and talk about what we will do today. We do that sitting in our conservatory and watching the pheasants and squirrels.
    Have a happy weekend

  2. Good morning, Pam! Well, you know how I greet the day. Full pot of coffee made in our coffee maker, fed cat asleep next to me. For 40+ years we had print newspapers until our home delivery got so horrible that I finally (and sadly) cancelled. Now, I’m off for my morning walk. Enjoy your earbuds and “special drinks”–and the beautiful, peaceful morning!

    • I honor your early early mornings Jill and how you still find time to write your wonderful romance novels. And aren’t you smart to include bottles of cold water with your coffee! I hope you have a terrific weekend. ♥️

    • Since our Endless Weekend begun, we have discovered some wonderful distinctions between words. For example, “wake up” and “get up” used to be synonymous in the dark days pre-Endless Weekend. But now, even if we wake up early (the 6am mention triggered this thought), the “get up” can happen a blessed couple of hours later. Yes, words have wonderful DISTINCT meanings 🙃

  3. I, too, always go “fetch” a mocha latte for my morning start. I could buy the equipment but it’s almost a ritual that needs the socialization that goes along with buying the coffee. Puts me in my happy spot.

  4. What a lovely way to start the day.

Unfortunately, I’m not a morning person at all… not until I’ve had a couple cups of coffee 😀 😀 😀 My lot have learnt over the years… don’t speak until she’s had the coffee 😀 😀 :D.

The times I’ve said to myself ‘I’m getting up early for a sunrise photo shoot!’ only to turn over and think, I’ll do that another day.

  5. Ok. I drink a glass of water and take my vitamin. I sit on my meditation cushion (for my back, not because I’m a devout practitioner) put in my earbuds, choose a song that’s been stuck in my head, and just chill to the beat. Then I play Wordle and go to the gym. If it’s a non gym day I do blog stuff.

  6. You are an excellent role model, Pam! Sadly, my day usually begins with me reaching for my iPhone to hit the nine-minute snooze, which I repeat at least twice more. Stumble out of bed to let the cat out because it’s the only way to make her stop yelling at me. Check my email, play Wordle, let the cat in because it’s the only way to make her stop yelling. Sigh, it’s all very bland. Your morning routine sounds so inspired and refreshing, right down to that fancy-schmancy latte! 😄
    Have a beautiful day!

    • A 27-minute snooze – dear me, Terrie. :-0. We set the alarm for 5:15 but then I’m good at jumping out of the bed by 5:30. It helps that I stretch in bed first for those 15 minutes. Ummm, about your cat. Does she/he at least purrr a bit? That’s meditative! 🙂 Here’s to GETTTING UP in the morning, whichever way we choose. ❤

  7. I greet my day with a mug of freshly brewed black coffee. I say “tres bien” as I pour the coffee, as a kind of prayer/intention for the day. Then I prefer to drink my coffee while sitting by myself outside on the deck– or if the weather is awful, I sit inside staring out a window. I need peacefulness to organize my thoughts and plans.

    • Yes, “peacefulness” in the morning is what I’m talking about, whichever way we find it. It’s a beautiful way to start the day. I love the way you greet the day with “tres bien.” Perfect!! I might ‘steal’ that idea and include it in my daily meditation. ❤

  8. What a lovely meditation and wonderful way to start your day… then the tasty beverage arrives at your door. A bit of bliss, Pam. We invested in an espresso machine and have become masters of the perfect latte. (Though that “Grande Earl Gray tea latte/no water/skim milk/¼ tsp of vanilla/extra foam” looks and sounds pretty wonderful. ❤ ❤

    • Our simple routines, whether with meditation or making the perfect espresso – those are the little things that really make a big difference in how the rest of our days goes, don’t you think? I’m drooling at your homemade “perfect latte.” Unfortunately, I’m not a coffee drinker, so tea latte is the way to go for me. Years ago – at least 15 now – a friend ‘discovered’ the Earl Grey tea latte with skim milk and a tiny splash of vanilla, and I’ve been drinking that every morning ever since. I give a little thanks to him and his culinary adventure daily. 🙂

  9. Hi Pam, I was reading your post at 2am – too dark for me to type a comment – your post made me smile and I wanted to return to it and listen to the meditation you were sharing here. Many good meditation apps out there and I ended up signing on to “Pzizz” initially a free trial and I liked some of the combinations of words/no words/music. At the time, it was on a list of top 5 apps in Australia. I use it at least 3 times a day (and 2am nights😀) with my AirPods. (A silly, minor thing that may be helpful is I place one airpod in my ear and I sleep on my side without the other airpod in) Whatever works. 😀 Also, noise cancelling often helpful in many situations (ie barking dogs in neighbourhood) Greeting the day: meditation, gratitude, coffee, reading empowering, beautiful words….Take care, Pam, I often visit you. ❤️

    • Actually, I find your advice very helpful! There are definitely nights in which no matter how hard I try to still my mind, I can’t get to sleep. So I try the Air pods with a meditation app but since I like to sleep on my side, it’s a bit awkward. Good to know that one air pod will work. I’ve never heard of Pzizz and will look it up. I also use the app Insight Timer, which has some great meditation choices.

      • Hi again, Pam, As you know there are many meditation apps. Even my granddaughters will meditate with me and on occasion fall asleep. You can play with the AirPods and figure it out. They individually click so you can use one at a time. Some people do this for phone calls. Always nice to exchange information/gems. xo

  10. This sounds like a peaceful way to start the day. Usually, I spring up at 5.30am when my alarm goes off and put on the bath. While the water runs I do my stretches with extend beyond the time when the bath is ready. After my bath, I go to the kitchen and put the washing on (usually the first of two loads). I made lunches and then wake the boys. I make breakfasts and set out medications. I then make my tea and sit down to blog for 1 hour form 6.30 am to 7.30am when I hang out the washing, have a small breakfast and then start work by 8.30am at the latest.

    • What a productive and even so, relaxing, morning ritual, Robbie. I also do the wash early, starting it while I’m sipping my tea at 6 a.m. I think that stretching first thing in the morning really helps our bodies be flexible for the entire day. Nice to have that dedicated hour of blogging time. ❤

  11. Pam, I don’t have a coffee maker either. Just easier (lazy) to buy a cold brew each morning. Once I get that beverage back home, I’ll have something to eat with it (possibly bought as well!) and then go about “resetting” myself to navigate the day. Any trips outside my “normal” brain occur then, and the goal is to generate some good, positive thoughts and prayers before diving into whatever the day may hold. I’ve only been in “first retirement” for a couple of months now, and it is nice to be able to build in more reflective and meditation-type time in the AM. I am enjoying my newly-established morning rituals so far.

  12. Sounds so relaxing… I greet the day with a look out the window, a cup of English Breakfast Tea and my Daily Devotionals and journal. It’s great to be retired and able to enjoy a morning quite time–something that was relegated to bedtime during career days. ❤ Have a great weekend, Pam!

  13. I greet the day with breakfast and meditation, sometimes in reverse order. My iPod has earbuds, so this morning I listened to them as I ate. My guy thinks I’m working too hard, so he got up earlier than I (unusual) to fix my breakfast of cereal, fruit, and boiled egg with coffee. My Fitbit has a meditation app, but I’d rather read scripture and stare out the windows in the lanai.

Thanks for the breathe of fresh air today, Pam! 😀

  14. We greet the day without coffee – or tea – but with inviting our pup onto the bed with us and a tablet on our laps to check emails and social media. Then, we take Maya for a walk and have our regular breakfasts – cereal/homemade granola with banana and almond milk (and sometimes a cup of tea for me). But only after we feed our dog first. 🙂

    • Asking a “younger “person is a good idea! I never would’ve done this if not for my granddaughter but I must admit I am really enjoying them now. Not for long spans of time for a short use they’re great.

  16. I start most days with a cup of coffee. There is no shame in buying your tea or coffee, whatever works for you. I cannot wait until afternoon, as my morning tends to be slow and approached with a touch of horror, to have my coffee so I make my own. I have a Bunn coffee maker which allows me to use k-cups, ground coffee or whatever to make a decent cup of coffee without risk to life or limb. This time of year, I buy Stok cold brewed coffee. I could make my own but the mess in doing so outweighs the cost savings.

I greet my day with babbling, wandering thoughts which should probably not be used on blogs.

You make me consider new ear buds. I do not have a friendly relationship with blue tooth but I like the idea. But I have a perfectly nice pair of noise reducing ear buds on wires so I will probably use them until they die. Babbling again. I like the idea of a daily guided meditation. I seem to have lost the ability to quiet my mind and meditate. I’m going to look into this.

    • I actually like babbling. I am known for babbling myself! 😁 I have now used the earbuds while flying and it helps reduce the noise as well as helps me listen to a book so I forget that I am on an airplane. I must admit I didn’t think I’d like using earbuds but it turns out I really do. Not for a long time but for a short time they work well.

  17. We get up, open the blinds, scan the skies, make the bed, wash faces, get dressed, etc. After morning ablutions, I have a cup of tea while doing Quordle & the NY Times puzzles (Wordle, Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Sudoku). BFF has breakfast and looks at the island papers. After an hour (or so), we get together for some exercise (a walk on the beach or bike ride), followed by a cup of coffee and a croissant or 1/2 an English Muffin. We chat about our “plans” for the day (or lack thereof) over coffee.

I love having no where to go and nothing to do but Be Present as one moment unfolds to the next. Aah . . . that’s better!

  18. What a lovely morning ritual, Pam.
I vary my mornings. I set the alarm for 5:30 and sometimes actually get up then. If it’s a running day, I get dressed, set my running app and am out the door. Upon my return, I set the kettle on to boil to make my first cup of coffee (using a Melita cone that I’ve been using for at least a hundred years) while I do my 7-minute yoga-go. Sometimes I’ll add a second workout (they all range from 7-9 minutes). If not, I sit at my computer, trying to catch up as my body cools down. Taking the shower immediately serves no purpose! I prepare my green smoothie, take said shower and am out the door by 7:50 to be at work for 8. I am SO done with this working crap. I am ready to retire yesterday so I can take longer walks and just breathe.
Thank you for the guided meditation! All the ones I’ve used are finished with the free trials (and weren’t good enough to entice me to pay)…

    • Dale – I read this several times and didn’t know I failed to respond. So much to say! First, running is a type of meditation, wouldn’t you say? I used to love to run (20+ years, until knees protested) and I fell into a wonderful meditative stage while doing so. Second, I finish my meditation (explained in this post) with three sun salutations. I was afraid this didn’t “count” as yoga or exercise, but you’re convincing me here with your routine that it DOES count. Even 7minutes. Third, I get what you’re saying about retiring. But in truth, I call it “reviving” instead. I stopped my ‘day jobs’ of working for non-profit organizations and now teach writing classes on my own schedule. It’s a great way to work, but to enjoy every second while doing so. ❤

      • It happens to the best of us. Fret not!
My knees are protesting so I fear I shall have to drop this one.
And yes, you mentioned that and YES they count!
I would love to work at something I loved doing – like you are. On your own schedule. I have to find that something. I don’t need to be making a gazillion dollars per year. I just want to feel like I’m vibrating, you know? Now, there is a buzz – like an annoying insect that won’t stop circling my head…

  19. Wonderful way of greeting the day, at least the good thing that came out of buying the Earphones was that your grandchildren enjoyed using them. Also, meditation is very important for starting the day be it a yoga or exercise with eyes closed. Well as for me, the best way to greet the day it is to listen to my favorite music jams that inspire me with confidence as the day begins🙏

  20. My husband and I always start the morning with a full pot of coffee and conversation about our plans for the day. I pray in the early morning when I first wake up, and before I get out of bed. We are up early, by five a.m. most days except the weekend. I love to hear the birds singing to greet the new day. When it is light enough outside, I see the birds hopping about on the porch. It is such a happy thing and a great start to the morning. Sometimes, we have our coffee outside, and then the morning time seems to pass so quickly!

  23. Very impressive awakening. I greet the day by keeping my eyes closed until husband leaves the room to go give the kitties a snack to tide them over ;). then I get up, pee, drink a sip of water, and lie back down to do wordle OR wait for husband to intercom me exactly where I can find all the cat vomit.

  24. I always start my morning with coffee and then head to my laptop to work on my WIP. I’ve set a commitment to write a certain amount of words each day and I will soon have a first draft written (a very bad first draft lol) but for now I am working at getting the story in place.

Your morning sounds peaceful. Enjoy the rest of the day!

  25. Hi, RW. Has anyone else let you know that you’re getting a lot of spam comments on your About page? I know because I’ve gotten 13 notifications of new comments on that page in the past few days. Not sure if there’s anything you can do about that? Block them, as they may be repeat offenders? Turn off comments for that post? Though I can understand why you may not want to do that. Just thought I’d let you know! 🙂

  27. It’s so interesting reading about everyone’s morning rituals. A ritual is a precious way to start the day and I notice a certain similarity. Mine is not original: wake at 6:15′ clean teeth, meditate, deal with the cat, tai chi, breakfast, read the news, shower — what a list! My first two hours are totally predictable. That’s not so much boring as reassuring, for me.

I have a tendency to put my blog and emails on the back burner, then it gets full and I get overwhelmed and avoid it even more. But I always save your posts to read. I listened to the wonderful meditation clip you included and then went to YouTube to find more. They are awesome! Thank you for sharing that. I hope you are well….
